The 1998 piece is quite interesting. It shows Elliot Handler telling me he
that wants the line of new die cast cars to all look like my customized 1964 El
Camino: mag wheels, red stripe tires, a bold “power” statement on the hood, very
bright candy colors… A real California custom car look. This is, of course, how
it all came about: my El Camino and Elliot’s fabulous insight!
However, the interesting part of this rendering is that I failed to show all
sixteen cars! There were sixteen in the group that I designed and I left out the
Firebird, the T-Bird, the Hot Heap and the VW Beetle! I was rushed and thinking
about the composition of the layout and just overlooked four cars!
